Erica + Davin met up with us recently in good old Madison to create some awesome engagement photos. We started the day with coffee and scones…then off to gallivant around the capitol area–dodging wind and rain but still having a blast.

Amy + Charlie’s Engagement Session

Madison Wedding Photography| Madison, Wisconsin | Alex + Natalie Nelson Photography | Wedding July 13th, 2013

Alex + I had such an awesome time in Madison with Amy + Charlie :) ! We love this time of year, especially in Madison. What happens when you combine the beauty of Lakeshore path, the colors and popular chairs at The Union, the fun of State Street and Amy + Charlie?  You get a killer e-session full of laughs (some at Alex and I), jokes and never-ending smiles. Amy is just beautiful and Charlie has the best sense of humor. My jaw hurt from smiling so much after this session. I love that they can make each other laugh constantly; yep, that’s love!

They met via an online website, grabbed a drink at Becket’s for a Happy Hour, and the rest is history! These two love to travel. At the time of their engagement session, they had just returned from Oktoberfest in GERMANY! Charlie proposed to Amy under the Eiffel Tower…yes, really! A paraphrase of their proposal wouldn’t do it justice, so here’s their story:

“We were in Paris for Thanksgiving 2011 with Charlie’s parents. He had been planning to propose on the top of the Eiffel tower but it was too foggy to go to the top. His parents and I agreed to do it a different day while Charlie was the only one to still want to go. Well, we didn’t go and as we were sitting in Charlie’s parents hotel room, he looked at me and said “I really want to see the Eiffel tower the day I arrive in Paris, do you want to go down there with me” I’m always up for spur of the moment things that have to get done quickly (we had dinner reservations and had to leave the hotel in 30 min), so of course I said ‘yea, let’s go’. We ran down to the Eiffel tower which took 15 minutes and I told him I wanted to smooch him right under the very middle so we did. After that he hugged me and told me he loved me and was so glad to have met me, then got down on his knee and took out the ring. I was so surprised and loudly gasping for breath and fogging up my glasses that I had to take them off and couldn’t really see anything. I said yes and we ran back to the hotel room to tell his parents, who didn’t know anything, and celebrated at dinner.”

We can’t wait for their Summer wedding next year!

ENJOY!

Kari and Cullen and undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Cullen is a U.S. Marine in the NROTC program and both of them are studying to be teachers. Cullen also works as a fitness coach and Kari is the Middleton High School Gymnastics Coach. When they’re not busy studying for exams or working, they can be found on the many different trails around Madison biking or running, attending Brewers and Badger games or cooking up a delicious and nutritious meal. For their first date…”We sat front row, right behind home plate, at the Brewer vs. Cardinal game opening weekend at Miller Park (no lie!). It was incredible! We got lost looking for a place to go to for supper before the game, and ended up at a typical small town supper club for Friday night fish fry, which was awesome!”They were married on Easter weekend and we were lucky to have simply beautiful weather with only a few drops of rain – just enough to whip out a few fun umbrella shots. They also did a First Look – which was beautiful overlooking Lake Monona, standing on the famous Frank Lloyd Wright building – The Monona Terrace.
We had a fantastic day with Kari + Cullen and their entire family!

Beth + Jason had a beautiful day with lots of smiles, energy and a little beer… Even though it torrential downpoured, we still had a blast playing in the rain, dodging raindrops. Plus, I got to dance with Bucky Badger!
