You do!

So, you’re planning an amazing wedding with lots of color, life, people and happiness! As you start your planning process you realize everything costs more than a few pennies. With money on the mind, everyone is looking for ways to save a few bucks on different wedding related expenses. Just don’t cut the engagement session!
Before we can describe why you need an engagement session, we must define what an engagement session is like with us, Alex + Natalie.
For Alex + I, we see the engagement session as a double date with expensive cameras. We walk, we talk, we sometimes grab drinks or lunch, then we capture the two of you simply being you! Now, come wedding day, you can be rest assured knowing exactly what to expect from us, and you can feel confident that we’ll capture both the big moments—and those special small intimate moments that happen but may go unnoticed until the digital images are processed.

We highly recommend the engagement session for a number of reasons. Here’s why:

Dress Rehearsal – You’re planning a rehearsal for your wedding day with a dress fitting, cake sampling, actual rehearsal the night before the wedding. So, it makes sense to have a rehearsal with your photographer – and your engagement session is just that!

We take a few hours to talk and walk, have oodles of fun, candid shots and basically teach you how to relax in front of the camera. So when your wedding day arrives, you look like natural models. The goal is for you to know exactly what to expect and feel comfortable with a camera following you throughout the day.

Touchbase – We have another opportunity to grab a coffee and for you both to get to know us better. Our mothers say we’re pretty awesome, so we think coffee and conversation with us would be fun. And, since we will be following your every move on the BIG DAY, it’s another opportunity to touchbase! From start to finish, we’ll be there standing alongside your family and friends. We’re there documenting the moments of your day to keep forever!

Because it’s fun! – It’s a lot of fun to feel special. Your wedding day is a HUGE event and you have a lot to be excited about, so let’s capture some of that anticipation and excitement. The engagement session is a great way to have fun with each other, be in love and simply have a great date! It can also be a great time to book your makeup trial on the same day so you can get an idea of how your makeup will look in pictures on your wedding day too.

Twister – We strive to take the stress out of the photo experience. No twister game here. We want you to feel comfortable and natural both at your engagement session and your wedding day. During your engagement shoot, we’ll take the time to answer lots of questions and give you directives on posing if needed or desired.
It’s Easy – We have fun; you get to cuddle, kiss and be yourselves. We can just drink coffee, we can go for a walk, we can tromp through a field, go over a river, or through the woods. The bottom line is you’ve been acting like yourself your whole life; all you’ve got to do is be you. You can practice being you in front of us, so when your BIG DAY comes, you’re ready to do the same thing in front of oodles of your closest peeps. YAY!

Memories – You can share your memories with family and friends through images of your engagement session. Consider a custom calendar, album or gorgeous canvas as a gift to yourselves or as a gift to your parents for having raised you for 18+ years.

Ask Questions! – We walk, we talk, you ask questions, and we ask questions. We laugh. We tackle any tough questions and discuss any concerns, plus you have both of our undivided attentions to ask our opinion on stuff. “We” have lots of opinions…just ask Alex!

So… – There is a lot of value in an engagement session. In our mind, the best part is that you get to spend a few hours hanging out with some super duper people. We really feel it’s important as these lasting images will be around forever, long after the flowers wilt, the cake is chomped and the presents are unwrapped.

If you are looking for a unique, trendy and glamorous wedding dress this year, you may want to include Urban Outfitters to your wedding dress-shopping list. Leslye Schlack is a recent graduate of Mount Mary College in Wauwatosa, Wis. with an emphasis in tailoring. She is an up and coming star in the fashion industry and has talents in both modeling and designing.

Urban Outfitters, notorious for appealing to university students, has just recently started a wedding line. In February, they launched BHLDN, a unique bridal line with beautiful gowns averaging around $3,000. The gowns are magnificent with styles ranging from romantic lace dresses with strapless sweetheart necklines, side bustles and trumpet silhouettes, to super modern and glamorous with plunging necklines. Here are just a few of my favorites:

Don’t forget about your bridesmaids. BHLDN offers a range of price points for dresses, ranging from $100 to $500 in many different styles. Here are just a few:

The other new line that launched in February was by Kristie Kelly, the line will be featured in no other than Costco. Yes, I said Costco. The gowns will all be under $1,000 and range from sizes 2 to 24. The Gowns are currently only being shown in trunk shows at certain stores. For a listing of stores offering these trunk shows visit www.costco.com. The gowns will be in stores in October 2011.
